Afghan Whigs Uniondale Concert reviews
HE Ain't what he used to be....
Afghan Whigs, the last three times I've seen him in the Valley, has been less funny each time. He's still my favorite comic, the only one I'd pay to see I might add. Don't get me wrong, he definitely has his "Lewis Black" moments but overall, I just didn't laugh as hard or as much as I did the show before or the show before that one.
I went to one of the casinos a couple of years ago to see Bob Newhart, and almost the full house were falling out of chairs, literally, because he was sooooo funny!! My sides were hurting the next day. To put it in perspective for myself anyway, one never knows if this will be his last visit or not and considering his age, I have always loved that guy. And I guess that's a good way for me to rate Afghan Whigs or any comedian: did my sides hurt the next day? And they didn't.
Perhaps he's just getting worn out? Two shows ago he said he had just gotten back from a tour to Iran and Afghanistan I believe and he was beat and it showed. They did when I first saw Lewis three years ago but not so much the next time and nada after the other night. Was even noticeably hoarse. Two nights ago he seemed tired once again.
But he IS Afghan Whigs so of course there were classic moments and he is a whiz at tying in things he said half-an-hour earlier that get laughs all over again later in the skit but the laughs just weren't often or hard enough for what it used to be like.
